Nikolai & Associates has 12 years of experience in scrap metal operations including identification of both ferrous and non-ferrous grades. Using brokered sales we have bought metals over a scale and directed personnel in processing, sorting, and smelting die-cast, lead, aluminum, brass, stainless steel and copper in a non-ferrous warehouse and directed a scrap collection yard with responsibility to buy, process, sell and ship cast iron and steel based upon the American Metal Market, The Wall Street Journal and corporate direction.
As Distribution Manager U.S.A. the principal was responsible for the transportation of all chemical, industrial, and highway/road salt produced at the mine at Cote Blanche, LA via barge to the inland waterways plus all U. S. Great Lakes shipments of salt from the Goderich, Ontario, mine on Lake Huron via self-unloading ships. Shipments were made to contracted docks, terminals, and warehouses, by barge north on the Mississippi River and its tributaries from Memphis to cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul and Chicago, on the Illinois River as well as the Ohio River system and its tributaries from Metropolis, IL as far north as Pittsburgh, PA. We shipped rock salt from Goderich via self-unloading vessels to the head of lakes at Duluth/Superior on the west to docks across all of the Great Lakes to Ogdensburg, NY on the St. Lawrence River in the east. The principal had contracts for salt handling with over 55 docks and terminals plus six company owned and contracted warehouses. Responsibilities included delivery to the ultimate customer either direct to chlor-alkali plants, through warehouses after scalp screening and bagging, or from highway stockpiles at contracted depots and terminals to melt ice and snow. During the 12-year tenure with Domtar Industries Inc, Sifto Salt Division and North American Salt Company we built production from the two rock salt mines to over 3,000,000 net tons of salt annually that needed to be shipped using water transportation.
